Interview with Alaska Public Media

On February 17, 2022, I spoke with Casey Grove, a host and reporter for Alaska Public Media, to discuss the piece I wrote that won Outside Magazine's inaugural survival stories essay contest. Our conversation went beyond the immediate, physical survival of the 1984 avalanche on Eagle Peak and shed light on the deeper struggle that followed. I shared how the true survival story was learning to navigate decades of severe, purely visual flashbacks and PTSD, and how embedding with a military rescue squadron eventually gave me the clarity and trust I needed to finally put the experience into words.
